An experimental procedure for the identification of the dynamic parameters for the rigid-ring tyre model

Abstract Several approaches have been developed over the years for modelling of tyre behaviour in vehicle-dynamic applications. The so-called ‘rigid-ring’ models are among classics belt dynamics. Although there several works dealing with vibrating properties tyres, problem identification related rigid-ring model parameters has not described other than qualitatively or partially. aim this work is thus to fill gap and devise a procedure experimental characterisation such parameters, namely frequency damping in-plane out-of-plane vibration modes as well associated masses inertias. An modal analysis (EMA) approach employed, which involves an instrumented hammer combined three-axial accelerometers roving on 16 stations equally spaced along circumference. method numerically demonstrated finite-element motorcycle car tyre. also experimentally validated real range 70–220 Hz, while those 51–85 Hz. ratios mass/inertia rigid ring 40–87% 68–74% respectively.
